Upstate Kayak Rentals Ready to Launch Operations at Mohawk Harbor

April 24, 2018Jim Salengo

Schenectady, N.Y., April 24, 2018 – The Galesi Group today announced that Upstate Kayak Rentals will offer hourly kayak rentals at Mohawk Harbor, Schenectady’s sixty-acre, $500 million waterfront development.

The new kayak launch will operate starting on Memorial Day weekend and running through the fall. Kayak rentals will be available next to the 55 boat – slip marina at Mohawk Harbor. Upstate Kayak Rentals was started by Donna Larkin in 2012. The company now operates two hourly rental walk-up locations and five self-serving kayak rental hubs in the Capital District. The Mohawk Harbor location will host 20 kayaks.

Ms. Larkin said, “We are very excited to add hourly kayak rentals at Schenectady’s Mohawk Harbor this year, which will provide an amazing location to paddle and explore the New York State Canal System. From Mohawk Harbor, paddlers can enjoy a different perspective of Schenectady’s Historic Stockade, the famous Jumpin’ Jacks Drive-In, Glen Sanders Mansion, and of course, Schenectady’s new Rivers Casino and Resort. After returning to the Harbor, paddlers can enjoy beverages and a great meal at Druther’s or Shaker & Vine on the Harbor’s waterfront patio. Upstate Kayak Rentals is thrilled to be a part of this exciting new venue.”

Galesi Group CEO David Buicko said, “We are pleased to offer direct access to the waterfront via our new marina and Upstate Kayak Rentals. Our goal with Mohawk Harbor was to open up the waterfront for all to enjoy. This is another great addition to our work, play live waterfront community.”

Kayaks will be available for the season starting Memorial Day weekend. Rental hours are Tuesday – Friday from 11am to 6pm and 10am to 6pm on weekends.

About Upstate Kayak Rentals – Upstate Kayak Rentals originated in 2012 with a dream to get more people paddling on the water and exploring the beautiful waterways of the Capital District. Upstate Kayak Rentals started with a dozen traveling kayaks for rent, and has since grown to a total of 7 different kayak rental locations on the Hudson and Mohawk rivers. There are 2 hourly rental locations – one at the Schenectady Mohawk Harbor, and one at the company’s original location in Waterford, NY, where the Erie Canal meets the Hudson River. Upstate Kayak Rentals also offers 5 self-serving Kayak Rental Hubs, which require the use of a smartphone and Bluetooth technology to unlock and enjoy a pair of kayaks and accompanying equipment. In addition to the hourly rental locations and serve-serving Hubs, Upstate Kayak Rentals maintains a traveling fleet of kayaks that can be rented in connection with parties, business meetings, client development meetings, fundraisers, or other group outings.
