Sixth Annual Wing Walk rules the roost in downtown Schenectady, Saturday, Oct. 7

October 3, 2017Jim Salengo

New restaurants, new flavors, new features

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – OCT. 3, 2017 – The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corp., Proctors and Schenectady County will once again drive wing lovers wild with the Sixth Annual Wing Walk, celebrating the city’s vibrant restaurant scene along with the great atmosphere and walkability of downtown Schenectady.

From noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, wing fans will try samplings from 20 downtown Schenectady restaurants and vote for their favorite. Several new competitors are on the roster this year: Slidin’ Dirty offers an Asian flair with Sesame Ginger Wings, Hunter’s on Jay keeps it personal with Hunter’s House Sauce Wings, and The Horses Lounge @ Clinton Street Pub cooks up a naughty/nice combo with Sweet-N-Sassy Wings.

RARE Craft Steak & Cocktail House is also new to the Wing Walk, having just opened earlier this year. The restaurant will be mixing sweet and savory with Maple Bacon BBQ Wings. Says owner Josh Mackenburg, “Although we are known as a destination for steak, we want to show the public that we aren’t chicken to spread our culinary wings. We can’t wait to show 1,500 visitors what RARE is all about!”

Other participating restaurants include: 20 North Broadway; 151 Bar & Restaurant; Aperitivo Bistro; Apostrophe Café; Backstage Pub & Grill; Bombers Burrito Bar; Canvas, Corks & Forks; Cornells in Little Italy; Katie O’Byrne’s; Mad Jack Brew Pub @ The Van Dyck; Manhattan Exchange; Nico’s Rooftop Tavern; Pho Queen; Pinhead Susan’s; and Taj Mahal Restaurant.

Mike Rochette of Centre Street: A Public House & Garden, says, “Popular promotions such as the Wing Walk really get visitors out and about to explore our walkable downtown and experience the fantastic restaurants here. We look forward to another super busy afternoon.” Centre Street will be serving up Peruvian Dry Rub Wings w/Green Goddess Sauce.

2017 Wing Walk tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for students (with appropriate I.D.) and are available at the Box Office at Proctors, 432 State Street, Schenectady; by phone at 518-346-6204; or at proctors.org. Sales are limited to 1,500 tickets.

Before sampling wings, ballots must be picked up at the Box Office at Proctors, 432 State Street, Schenectady. Guests may vote for their favorite wing recipe by placing their completed ballots in the Wing Walk drop box at any participating restaurant or the Box Office at Proctors by 5 p.m.

New for 2017, The YMCA Schenectady Branch will be providing daycare services for Wing Walkers’ little chicks from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at a cost of $5/hour. Gym games, crafts and activities will be broken down into age-specific areas. You must register for daycare services by Friday, October 6 at cdymca.org/wingwalk.
