Restaurant receives the most votes during inaugural event in Downtown Schenectady
SCHENECTADY, NY – May 20, 2023 – Downtown Schenectady’s streets and businesses were teeming with spud enthusiasts today during the inaugural Downtown Schenectady Tater Trot from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. During the event organized by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC), guests sampled an outstanding selection of potato-based recipes from 22 participating restaurants.
Those who tried at least 11 samples were encouraged to cast votes for their favorite recipe at ballot boxes placed around downtown. After all ballots were counted following the event, the 2023 “One Potato” first place champion by popular vote was Simone’s Kitchen for their Roasted Sweet Potato Hummus Plate.
Jim Salengo, executive director of the DSIC, said, “Our extremely popular fall Wing Walk and winter Soup Stroll have become much-anticipated regional events, and it’s safe to say that the Tater Trot has taken its place as the king of spring! We were thrilled with today’s turnout, as well as with the creativity on display by our many outstanding restaurants. We look forward to lots of Trots in the years ahead.”
The full list of winners by popular vote for the 2023 Tater Trot are:
- “One Potato” (First Place) | Simone’s Kitchen for their Roasted Sweet Potato Hummus Plate
- “Two Potato” (Second Place) | Chez Nous for their Pulled Pork & Green Onion Potato Croquette
- “Three Potato” (Third Place) | SUNY Schenectady Food Truck for their Sweet Potato Beignet over Coconut and Yellow Jack Fruit Cream w/Pistachio Dust
- “Four!” (Honorable Mention) | Maria’s Café & Catering for their Poutine & Pulled Pork
The 2023 Downtown Schenectady Tater Trot was presented by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation in partnership with downtown restaurants.
Next year’s edition of the Tater Trot is slated for Saturday, May 18, 2024.
