Schenectady Soup Stroll Combats Cabin Fever with Comfort Food

26 Restaurants Will Serve Up Creative Soup Recipes on January 27

Schenectady, NY (Jan. 23, 2018) – Twenty-six participating restaurants throughout Downtown Schenectady will dish up delicious hot soup for visitors during the 3rd Annual Schenectady Soup Stroll on Saturday, January 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To enjoy the Soup Stroll, guests can pick up an event map at any participating location and stroll from restaurant to restaurant to sample unique soup recipes for $1.00 per 3 oz. cup.

Jim Salengo, Executive Director of the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC), said, “Now in its third year, the Soup Stroll has become a signature winter event in Downtown Schenectady and a perfect cure for Cabin Fever. Not only can visitors experience the flavors and ambiance of downtown’s popular dining scene, but they also get to enjoy a great afternoon of socializing on the streets and in the restaurants with throngs of fellow Soup Strollers.”

Abby Rockmacher, owner of new Jay Street eatery and retail business The DillyBean, said, “We were highly motivated to get our new space up and running in time for the Schenectady Soup Stroll. We know how popular the event is, and we didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to spotlight our business to huge crowds of happy and hungry visitors.” She added, “The DillyBean focuses on local, natural and organic foods and other products, so we will be offering a delicious Cream of Vegetable soup that is gluten free and vegan.”

8 – Civitello’s Italian Pastry Shoppe – Pasta e Fagioli (Veg)
9 – The DillyBean – Cream of Vegetable (GF, V, Veg)
10 – The Horses Lounge @ Great Flats Brewing – Corned Beef Stew Infused with Beer
11 – Hunter’s on Jay – Angus Cheeseburger Soup
12 – Isopo’s Downtown Pizza – Italian Wedding Soup

14 – Katie O’Byrne’s Irish Pub & Restaurant – Reuben Chowder

Guest judges from the Yelp Albany Elite Member community will be tasting soups throughout the afternoon and choosing their top three recipes to win the Golden Tureen, Silver Spoon and Bronze Ladle Awards.

The 3rd Annual Schenectady Soup Stroll is presented by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation with promotional assistance from Yelp Albany. Full details, including a downloadable event map, can be found at downtownschenectady.org or facebook.com/schenectadysoupstroll.
