Schenectady County SummerNight 2019 is this Friday!

July 9, 2019Amy Sonder

Grammy Award Nominee and Multi-Platinum Selling Smash Mouth to Headline

(Schenectady County, NY)  Schenectady County SummerNight featuring Grammy nominated and multi-platinum selling Smash Mouth is this Friday, July 12, 2019.  This FREE summer family-friendly block party, with support from our presenting sponsors Rivers Casino & Resort, Times Union, and Saratoga Eagle, in partnership with the City of Schenectady, will be held from 5:00pm until 10:00pm in Downtown Schenectady (on State Street between Broadway and Barrett Street and on the Jay Street Pedestrian Mall) – right in the heart of the city’s revitalized and exciting downtown.

“The Capital Region’s biggest summer block party just keeps getting bigger and better,” said Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Legislature’s Committee on Tourism, Arts and Special Events.  “Smash Mouth continues our tradition of bringing big name talent to our rejuvenated downtown, and all for free!  So we invite all of our residents and visitors from around the region to come to SummerNight for a fun-filled evening of great music, food, and fun.”

This year’s celebration will feature live musical performances on three stages, games, and great food.  The GE Main Stage on State Street will rock throughout the evening with the sounds of Schenectady County’s 2017 and 2018 Battle of the Bands winners Bendt and Hasty Page opening for Smash Mouth, followed by the grand finale Price Chopper & Market 32 fireworks.  Additional musical performances on the WEQX Stage will be Joe Mansman and the Midnight Revival Bank, Sly Fox and the Hustlers, and Honey Suckle Vine, and City Beat will be featured on the Jammin’ on Jay Stage.

The ever popular sand sculpture sponsored by Sunmark FCU will again be created right before your eyes beginning at 10am.  And what’s a summer celebration without a food eating contest?  Villa Italia will be sponsoring the Fifth Annual “Schenectady County Celebrity” Cannoli Eating Contest.

Kid-friendly activities will occur in the MVP Health Care Kids Corner including activities with Schenectady YMCA, the Schenectady Boys & Girls Club, miSci, free face painting, a rock climbing wall, and so much more!

Finally, a great summer party is not complete without great food, and Schenectady County SummerNight promises to deliver! Downtown restaurants and vendors will offer delicious food, drinks, and desserts for sale throughout the event. Downtown restaurants and shops are open for business, many bringing their operations outdoors so revelers will not miss a minute of Schenectady County SummerNight excitement.

Schenectady County SummerNight is presented by Rivers Casino and Resort, Times Union, and Saratoga Eagle in partnership with the City of Schenectady, with media partners B95.5 and WEQX, and additional support from GE, MVP Health Care, Price Chopper/Market 32, Sunmark FCU, and Proctors.
