Schenectady County Projects Receive Funding from New York State

December 19, 2019Amy Sonder2

Schenectady, N.Y., December 19, 2019 – Schenectady County Leaders today thanked Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Governor’s Regional Economic Development Council for funding a number of strategic projects that will continue the County’s successful economic development efforts.

“Schenectady is winning again and the funding announced today will leverage private investment to make possible impactful projects that will continue to boost our economy,” said Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair. “The Erie Landing project turns a blighted site on Erie Boulevard into a new mixed-use facility that adds to the momentum downtown. The new dock at Mohawk harbor helps reconnect Schenectady to our riverfront and allows more visitors to Discover Schenectady. The Port Schenectady project helps local manufacturers get their products to market and increases our competitiveness. We thank Governor Cuomo for supporting these key economic development projects in Schenectady County.”

ERIE LANDING

Highbridge/Prime Erie Development, LLC received an $800,000 grant that will transform a vacant lot located at 154 and 168 Erie Boulevard. The new development is called Erie Landing and will include 136 new apartments including 22 two-story loft apartments, as well as office/retail space in the heart of downtown.

LARGE VESSEL DOCKAGE

Approximately 680 feet of large vessel dockage will be built at Mohawk Harbor using a $948,884 grant. The new dock will enable waterfront access for fishing and water-based recreation. It will also allow larger boats, including tour boats, to come ashore in Schenectady allowing visitors direct access to Rivers Casino & Resort, The Landing Hotel, Marriott Courtyard, Mohawk Harbor amenities and downtown attractions.

PORT SCHENECTADY

Dagen Trucking and Logistics, a heavy haul transport company, will construct and operate a heavy lift and special cargo capacity maritime facility on the NYS Canal in Schenectady County for the purpose of enhancing the competitiveness of manufacturing companies in Upstate New York and opening up export and import opportunities for the regional economy. The grant award for this project $1,560,000.
