People and Their Pups Invited to PAWS ON THE PATIO

June 7, 2018Jim Salengo

Monthly Meetup Celebrates Dog-Friendly Downtown Schenectady

Schenectady, NY (June 7, 2018) – The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) invites dogs and their humans to SIT! and STAY! in downtown during the new PAWS ON THE PATIO monthly meetup. A variety of restaurants with popular patios are encouraging dog owners to bring their best friends out with them for a late afternoon/evening of snacking and socializing al fresco. PAWS ON THE PATIO launches on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and continues on the first Thursday of each month through October (July 5, August 2, September 6 & October 4).

The following restaurants to date are participating in PAWS ON THE PATIO:

  • Manhattan Exchange – 607 Union Street
    • Free water and dog treats
  • Mexican Radio Schenectady – 325 State Street
    • Free agua fresca and Mexican-inspired dog treats
  • Rare Craft Steak & Cocktail House – 611 Union Street
    • Free house-made dog treats
  • Slidin’ Dirty Schenectady – 512 State Street
    • Free water; free dog treats with purchase of people food or drink
  • Wolff’s Biergarten Schenectady – 165 Erie Boulevard
    • Free water and dog treats

Said Jim Salengo, executive director of the DSIC, “By embracing both parents and their pups, participating restaurants are enhancing downtown’s growing reputation as a modern, welcoming and inclusive Capital Region destination. All that guests need to do is show up at the location(s) of their choice with their furry friends, relax, drink and/or eat and meet other people and pups who love Downtown Schenectady.”

Said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, who is bringing his Teacup Yorkie, Muffie, to the June 7 kickoff, “Dogs across the state are wagging their tails following the passage of a law in New York that lets them dine with their owners at outdoor restaurant patios. Now restaurants have the flexibility to attract new customers and provide an enjoyable pet-friendly dining experience. For most dog owners like myself, pets are part of the family, and it’s great to bring the entire family when we go out for a bite to eat at local restaurants like these.”

Said Tim Taney, owner of Slidin’ Dirty, “Dogs are family members of our patrons and are welcomed with open arms to our beautiful patio here at Slidin’ Dirty Schenectady. Schenectady continues to make itself a premier destination in the Capital Region and, thanks to DSIC’s PAWS ON THE PATIO, we’re looking forward to slidin’ into a fantastic summer season!”

Said Lori Selden, owner of Mexican Radio, “Fiestas are about family and friends, and our animal companions are both! We’re super excited to be able to include our four-footed furry loved ones at our tables and are looking forward to designing some delicioso treats for them as the DSIC’s PAWS ON THE PATIO promotion evolves over the summer and into the fall.”

All dogs must be social/friendly and on a leash.

PAWS ON THE PATIO is presented by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation in partnership with downtown restaurants. Visit www.downtownschenectady.org or the DSIC’s Facebook page for additional information and promotional updates.
