Mopco Lowers Regular Show Prices to 2016 levels
The Mopco Improv Theatre is cutting ticket prices for regular weekend shows by 11% to 16%. The reductions bring prices back down to the levels of 6 years ago, when the Mopco opened in Schenectady’s Little Italy neighborhood.
The folks at the improv venue pride themselves on providing high quality, inexpensive entertainment for all. However, over the last couple of years, the management felt they had no choice– prices at the Schenectady theater crept up. “I was doing some work online, and saw what people had to pay for a ticket, including fees,” said Artistic Director Michael Burns. “Over $20 for a Saturday night improv show! That’s outrageous!”
Like every other theater, The Mopco has had a rough go of it since 2020. After a 16 month shutdown, the theater reopened, then closed again for 6 weeks in the face of the Omicron variant. Then came inflation. “Let’s face it, everyone’s feeling some pain.” said Burns. “We are stretched thin financially, but we remain committed to bringing some joy to a stressed out world. We’re doing this to keep a fun night out affordable for regular folks.”
The Mopco (https://www.mopco.org/) opened its doors on North Jay Street in 2016, after a 10 year residence at Proctors. The theater is also the home of Koppett, a consultancy that uses improv and story techniques in business applications. Koppett’s eponymous founder is Mopco co-Director Kat Koppett.
