Schenectady, N.Y., October 26, 2015 – Schenectady Mayor Gary R. McCarthy and Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature, today joined with the Galesi Group and BBL Construction Services to break ground on a new $15 million, 124-room Courtyard by Marriott Hotel at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady, NY.

Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature said, “This project is another example of how working together through our unified economic development team we continue to attract private developers to invest in Schenectady County. The new Courtyard by Marriott will be a great addition to Mohawk Harbor and this project will continue the momentum that is transforming our waterfront.”

Gary R. McCarthy, Mayor of Schenectady said, “The new Courtyard by Marriott is a great way to launch Mohawk Harbor. This is the first of many positive developments that will occur at this new regional destination. In addition, this project helps us keep business travelers and visitors at hotels here in Schenectady.”

David M. Buicko, COO of the Galesi Group said, “Mohawk Harbor is the culmination of years of work by the Galesi Group, New York State, Metroplex, and the City and County of Schenectady. We are creating one of the largest waterfront projects in New York State that will include hotels, office space, apartments, condos, retail, bike trails, boat slips, and the Rivers Casino. This is a combined $480 million investment in the future of Schenectady.”

Stephen Obermayer, CFO of BBL Construction Services said, “We are very excited to be working with the Galesi Group to bring a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel to Schenectady. Mohawk Harbor will be an exciting waterfront destination where people can work, stay, live, be entertained, and enjoy the waterfront.”

Hotel guests at the new Courtyard by Marriott will have a variety of retail, dining, and entertainment amenities within walking distance. The new hotel will be four stories tall and will include 124 rooms, a swimming pool and gym, business center and bistro.
