For 2020, the Annual Wing Walk Becomes WING WEEK, Oct. 5-11

Signature event adapts to pandemic to keep wings flying out of restaurants

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – OCT. 1, 2020 – Downtown Schenectady’s restaurants will be serving up a delicious diversity of specialty chicken wing flavors for dine-in or take-out during Wing Week 2020, taking place Monday, October 5 through Sunday, October 11. The event is coordinated by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC), which has presented the popular annual Wing Walk event since 2012.

Each year, the Wing Walk normally attracts thousands of visitors to Downtown Schenectady on the first Saturday of October for a day of strolling, sampling, and socializing. Jim Salengo, executive director of the DSIC, explained, “Due to social distancing guidelines and limitations on public gatherings surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to organize the usual Wing Walk as we have for the past eight years.” He added, “But since it is such a popular event – and a significant revenue generator for downtown businesses – it was important for us to keep a wing-related promotion on the calendar this year to satisfy public demand and benefit our local restaurants.”

Throughout Wing Week, each participating restaurant is offering a specialty wing flavor in three different order sizes during lunch and/or dinner to give customers the flexibility to order from one or multiple locations at a time. Small-size orders range from 1-6 wings; regular-size from 5-12 wings; and double-size from 10-24 wings. Prices vary per restaurant. No tickets are required for Wing Week; customers may simply call or visit a restaurant to order their wings for take-out or dine-in. To complement their specialty wings, several restaurants will also be offering drink specials throughout the week.
