City Mission in Schenectady Receives $25,000 Donation from Marshall & Sterling Insurance for Downtown Ambassadors Program

December 31, 2020Amy Sonder2

Schenectady, N.Y. – The Schenectady City Mission announced today that Marshall & Sterling Insurance has donated $25,000 to support the Ambassadors Program, which provides job training for individuals who are then employed as goodwill ambassadors in Downtown Schenectady.

“With this generous donation, Marshall & Sterling is helping to make sure that the Ambassadors Program will be up and running and ready to serve downtown again as the pandemic is defeated by vaccine technology,” said City Mission Executive Director/CEO Michael Saccocio. “As we build a new downtown for all, this program helps provide new career pathways for many.”

Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “The Ambassadors Program is a proven winner for downtown and during this pandemic we are grateful for the support of businesses such as Marshall & Sterling for their support of our community.”

“Marshall & Sterling is pleased to help with this effort to reopen and revitalize Downtown Schenectady,” said Jeanne Maloy, President of Marshall & Sterling Upstate which is based in Scotia, NY. “The Ambassadors Program is a job training success and a welcoming resource for downtown visitors.”

Participants in the Ambassadors Program are identified and selected through the mission’s job training program and are referred by other human services organizations. The new Ambassadors receive temporary employment and training in the hospitality industry with a goal of helping them find a permanent job.

Marshall & Sterling, a 100% employee-owned company, was founded in 1864 and is headquartered in Poughkeepsie, NY with 26 branch offices throughout New York State as well as offices in California, Florida, Michigan, Virginia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
