Capoccia Vineyards and Winery to Open Retail Store and Wine Tasting Facility in Downtown Schenectady

September 18, 2015dsicgail

Schenectady, N.Y., September 18, 2015 — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today announced that Capoccia Vineyards and Winery will open a new facility at the historic Foster Building in downtown Schenectady.

Located at 510 State Street, the Foster Building is behind renovated by Sequence Development based in Troy, NY.  Capoccia Wines will lease 2,600 square feet of space on the ground floor to open a wine tasting room and retail store.  The retail store will hold wine tastings and pairings and sell wine and wine accessories.

The new wine store will also feature an area where the public can sample wines by the glass and purchase both wine and other locally made food products and beverages.  The new Foster Building courtyard will feature outdoor seating.

The new downtown location will also serve as a retail outlet for wines produced at the company’s vineyard and winery in Niskayuna.  The Niskayuna production facility is open for tours from Thursday to Saturday 10 am to 8 pm and on Sunday from noon to 6 pm.

Justin Capoccia said, “After my first showing of the Foster building, it was love at first sight. My family and I are excited to open up and bring new life to this historic and architecturally brilliant building. I think we will bring a great dynamic to downtown showcasing all that the Capital Region has to offer with all local beverages and products. Growing up in Schenectady, I have seen downtown come farther than I ever had imagined it would have and now my family and I are a part of the process and could not be happier.”

Jeff Buell, President and CEO of Sequence Development said, “Since the day we began reimagining what the Foster Hotel would be, we were seeking a retail tenant that would enliven the first floor and be a complimentary use for all of the current activity in Downtown Schenectady. We believe that Justin and his family will bring renewed energy to the Foster and are excited to enjoy the results.”

Ray Gillen Metroplex Chair said, “This is another exciting development for downtown Schenectady and we thank Justin Capoccia and his family for working with Jeff Buell and his team to bring this new retail project to the Foster Building.”
