Schenectady, N.Y., October 23, 2020 – The Board of Directors of the Capital Region Land Bank met this week and approved three new projects that will enhance neighborhood redevelopment efforts in Schenectady.
Richard Ruzzo, Chair of the Capital Region Land Bank said, “We are pleased to keep the momentum going by approving these new projects that will remove blighted buildings and help us continue to revitalize our neighborhoods.” Mr. Ruzzo is also a member of the Schenectady County Legislature.
The Land Bank will demolish 1052 and 1062 Barrett Street, two buildings in the Little Italy neighborhood. The buildings are now city-owned.
In the East Front Street neighborhood, 7 Mohawk Avenue will be demolished. This is a vacant building that is very close to Front Street and Mohawk Harbor.
The Mont Pleasant neighborhood will see 1058 Crane Street renovated. The City Council is expected to approve next week the transfer of this building to the Land Bank. The Land Bank will work with the Ramroop family, owners of a recently renovated laundromat on Crane Street, to redevelop the building. Two other buildings on Crane Street are currently being renovated.
The Land Bank Board approved a demolition contract with Bronze Contracting located in Remsen, NY. The $285,000 contract includes demolitions in both Schenectady and Amsterdam.
Metroplex administers the Land Bank as part of Schenectady County’s unified economic development team.
