BelGioioso to Expand in Schenectady County Leading National Cheese Manufacturing Company Will Renovate 120,000 Square Foot Building

December 13, 2021Amy Sonder2

Schenectady, N.Y., December 13, 2021 — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today announced that BelGioioso Cheese, Inc., a leading specialty cheese manufacturer based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, will expand its operations in Schenectady County.

The company will renovate Building 403, a 120,000 square foot building located at the Glenville Business & Tech Park. The renovated building will include 60,000 square feet of new cold storage/cooler space plus offices and room for future expansion. In 2019, BelGioioso built a new $30 million, 100,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Glenville at a 40-acre site that the company purchased from Metroplex. Once the newly renovated storage facility is open, ten new jobs will be added in Glenville.

Tim Cronin, BelGioioso Cheese General Manager, said, “We are pleased to announce this new cold storage facility in Glenville to service the needs of our rapidly expanding business. We have seen tremendous growth from our operations in Schenectady County; a testament to the commitment and leadership of our owners, the Auricchio Family, our dedicated employees, dairy farm partners and our loyal customers.

LeChase Construction of Schenectady, NY will complete the renovation work with a target opening date at the end of 2022.

Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County, said, “As a national company we know that BelGioioso can invest anywhere, and for the second time in the past four years they have chosen to invest in a new project right here in Schenectady County. We thank BelGioioso for their continued commitment to our community, and our economic development team for their dedication to bringing new economic investment to the County.”

The County’s economic development team at Metroplex is coordinating the new expansion with the Town of Glenville. The Metroplex Board has approved a sales tax exemption for building materials used to renovate Building 403.

Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, “We are so proud of the great cheeses made in Glenville by BelGioioso and its dedicated employees. When we sold 40 acres to the company, we hoped they would expand and we are pleased to see this major building renovation move forward.”

Glenville Town Supervisor Chris Koetzle said, “I am thrilled that BelGioioso is making this additional investment in Glenville that will result in expanded tax base and additional jobs. The Glenville Business and Technology Park continues to be an attractive location for so many businesses and I want to thank Metroplex for their continued hard work in its ongoing revitalization.” Founded in 1979, BelGioioso is a specialty producer of all-natural, award-winning Italian cheeses. The cheeses are manufactured, aged, finished, packaged and shipped from the company’s facilities, allowing them to oversee and provide quality control from start to finish. For nearly 40 years, BelGioioso cheeses have set a standard of excellence in the industry, winning many national and international awards for taste and quality.
