“Golldie” the Mighty Wurlitzer:
At the time Proctors was built a theatre pipe organ was an integral part of most every major “Movie Palace”. It provided the background music during the arrival and intermissions, and sound effects for silent files and accompaniment for Vaudeville Shows and stage productions. The installation of a three-manual, eighteen-rank Wurlitzer Theatre Organ represented a significant step towards the restoration of Proctor’s Theatre to its original grandeur.
Goldie, as it is called due to its original all gold finish, was purchased from Claude Newman in Minneapolis thanks to the generous contributions form the Golub Family and Golub Foundation. The organ was delivered to Proctors in July 1983.
Goldie has recently been upgraded with an improved spotless, all-electric stop action, enhanced combination system and MIDI capability. These improvements make the organ more reliable, easier to play and ore capable than ever before.
