Schenectady, N.Y., April 3, 2016 — Work on the Nicholaus Building continued today at the corner of State Street and Erie Boulevard in downtown Schenectady. Project Engineers, City staff and the City Fire Chief all toured the building while shoring work continued. The shoring involves the placement of large structural steel columns and support bracing along the side of the building.
The building is stable and no movements of any kind have been detected by sensors located in the building.
Erie Boulevard will remain closed southbound from Liberty Street to Erie Street. State Street will remain closed from South Ferry Street to Erie Boulevard.
The reason for the road closures to continue into Monday is that high winds today prevented work from being completed on the upper floors and roof of the building. As an extra measure of precaution, the City will keep roads closed through Monday so that work can be completed when winds subside.
Residents and commuters are asked to avoid Erie Boulevard and lower State Street on Monday. Updates will be provided at www.parkschenectady.com.
