Simone’s Kitchen Named 2024 Schenectady “Soup Stroll Souperstar”
Restaurant receives the most votes during 8th annual event in Downtown Schenectady
SCHENECTADY, NY – January 27, 2024 – Downtown Schenectady’s streets and businesses were teeming with thousands of visitors today during the 8th Annual Schenectady Soup Stroll from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During the event organized by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC), guests sampled an outstanding selection of soup recipes from 32 participating restaurants.
Those who sampled at least 10 soups were encouraged to cast votes for their favorite flavor at ballot boxes placed around downtown. After all ballots were counted following the event, the 2024 “Soup Stroll Souperstar” champion by popular vote was Simone’s Kitchen for their Greek-style Cauliflower Chowder with Lemon Potatoes.
Amy Sonder, Promotions Manager said, “We couldn’t have asked for better weather to have the Soup Stroll, which has become a signature winter event in Downtown Schenectady. We are continually impressed by our downtown restaurants for always putting out incredibly unique offerings. The support the community shows for the restaurants downtown is so greatly appreciated. The team at DSIC is proud to have hosted the 8th Annual Schenectady Soup Stroll and we encourage everyone to continue to visit these amazing locally owned businesses.”
A panel of judges from the regional foodie community also voted on their favorite soups. They included Nellie Ackerman, from FeedMe 518; Danielle Eashworth, from TheGreat_518, and Laura Koennecke from the Electric City Community Grocery. The top three judges’ picks were as follows:
- The 1st place “Golden Tureen” award went to Simone’s Kitchen for their Greek-style Cauliflower Chowder with Lemon Potatoes.
- The 2nd place “Silver Spoon” award went to Backstage Pub for their Loaded Baked Potato & Bacon Chowder w/ Asiago Stuffed Gnocchi, Sriracha Crema & Chives.
- The 3rd place “Bronze Ladle” award went to Manhattan Exchange for their Carne Asada Chipotle Corn Chowder.
Judge’s Choice: Tara Kitchen with Cheezy Chicken n Bacon Corn Chowder

Best Presentation: Take Two Café with Vindaloo Chili
