Metroplex Provides Update on Wedgeway Building Progress

April 13, 2022Amy Sonder2

Schenectady, N.Y., April 13, 2022 — The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority today provided an update on plans to redevelop the vacant Wedgeway Building at the corner of State Street and Erie Boulevard in downtown Schenectady.

Metroplex is working with Cass Hill Development based in Latham, NY to restore the two building complex located at 271 and 277 State Street.

The renovated Wedgeway building will include up to 80 apartments and 14,000 square feet of first floor commercial space. Cass Hill Development owns and manages more than 1.25 million square feet of residential, office and industrial space in the Capital Region including two large residential projects in downtown Albany (The Argus and the Monroe Apartments) as well as two developments in Glens Falls (14 Hudson and The Mill of Glens Falls).

Marc Paquin, CEO of Cass Hill Development said, “Projects like this can’t be completed without the support of the community, and I would like to thank Metroplex, Chairman Jasenski, and Mayor McCarthy for entrusting Cass Hill with this opportunity. The Wedgeway building has great historical significance to the City of Schenectady, and I take very seriously the responsibility of honoring that legacy. I look forward to furthering the downtown resurgence by breathing new life into this important landmark.”

“We thank Marc Paquin for his commitment to preserving the Wedgeway building, an important piece of our history,” said Anthony Jasenski, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Our economic development team has done a great job redeveloping our downtown in a way that values our past while building for the future.”

Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “The Wedgeway has a storied history and we begin a new chapter today by partnering with Metroplex, Schenectady County and Marc Paquin to fix this landmark in our resurgent downtown.”

Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, “We are very pleased to be working with Marc Paquin and his team at Cass Hill Development. He is the type of developer with a proven track record that can take on a challenging project and succeed. We will work closely with him as we move forward to renovate this critical building at the most visible corner in Downtown Schenectady.”

Metroplex will hold a public hearing on the Wedgeway project on April 13th at 5:00 PM. The City Planning Commission will review the project on April 20th. The Metroplex Board will review the project on April 27th.
