DSIC Launches “Show Me Schenectady” Local Business Showcase

March 30, 2020Amy Sonder2

Downtown Businesses Will Go Live on the DSIC Facebook Page Weekdays at 4:00 p.m. Beginning Monday, March 30

(Schenectady, NY, March 30, 2020) – The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) will turn over its Facebook page to downtown businesses and organizations each weekday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. beginning Monday, March 30. The new promotion, called “Show Me Schenectady,” is being launched to showcase the wide variety of Downtown Schenectady businesses and to help keep them connected to the community during this difficult time when many are closed to the public due to COVID-19 safety regulations.

Jim Salengo, executive director of the DSIC, said “We are working hard to track current downtown business offers and promote them through our website and social media pages, but we wanted to help businesses interact directly with the public. By giving them access to Facebook Live on our page, small businesses can leverage our strong social media presence while promoting themselves in fun and creative ways.” He added, “We are proud to serve as a clearinghouse for the best that downtown has to offer.”

“Show Me Schenectady” will kick off with a live interactive art project presented by CREATE Community Studios.

CREATE’s Heather Hutchison said, “So many of our businesses rely on in-person interactions, which are obviously interrupted during this time of physical distancing. Our small businesses and nonprofits are not just the backbone of our local economy, but also the culture and soul of our society. Suddenly social media has become key to communication, and CREATE is excited to be able to connect with more people in our community during the DSIC’s Facebook Live series.”

Businesses confirmed for upcoming “Show Me Schenectady” sessions include:

  • Yoga Bliss on the Blvd.
  • The Open Door Bookstore
  • The Makeup Curio
  • More Perreca’s Italian Kitchen
  • True Juice Cafe
  • The Schenectady Trading Company
  • Bear and Bird Boutique + Gallery
  • The Silver Shop
  • Johnny’s Restaurant
  • Clinton Street Mercantile
  • MopCo Improv Theatre
  • Schenectady County Historical Society

Other businesses will be added into the rotation regularly. For specific “Show Me Schenectady” schedules, visit the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation’s Facebook page and website.
