Featuring Guest Conductor, Queensbury High School Parillo Winner and Schenectady High School Silhouette’s
The first 150 ladies to arrive at Proctors for the Schenectady Symphony’s Mother’s Day Romance Concert at 3pm at Proctors will all receive a beautiful fresh flower. Also, attendees will have an opportunity to spoil that special mother in their life with an after-concert meal at Katie O’Bryne’s, where you will receive 10% off your tab and a free glass of house wine, or at Tara Kitchen, where Mom will receive 15% off of her meal and a free glass of wine.
Ching-Chun Lai, guest conductor for the afternoon, is the Director of Orchestras and Associate Professor of Music at the Crane School of Music, State University of New York at Potsdam. Since her arrival in 2011, the orchestra has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
Queensbury High School 11th grader Kyra Lombard and winner of the League of the Schenectady Symphony’s 2017 Regional Parillo Piano Competition is soloist for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. She currently studies with Dr. Young Kim of St. Rose College.
In addition to the Parillo award, Kyra won 1st place in the Ithaca College Division I Piano Competition (2016) and received honors in the Capital District Council for Young Musicians Chopin Master Competition (2018) and was a finalist in the New York Piano Competition and Festival (2018).
Rounding out the afternoon is a performance by the Silhouettes, the Women’s Choir at Schenectady High School. It is made up of approximately 30 students from varying grade levels. The group, led by Rachel Gayne performs a variety of genres ranging from Renaissance to Gospel.
A pre-concert talk takes place at 2pm in the Fenimore Gallery with Ms. Lai. Doors open to the theatre at 2:30pm.
Single tickets are $15 and $22, at the box office. Students 18 and under free with paid accompanied adult.
