Discover Schenectady Announces Selection of Schenectady County as Host for Two Major Conferences

October 18, 2018Jim Salengo

Nearly 500 attendees and families will visit the region to experience Schenectady’s hotels, restaurants, and shops

(Schenectady, N.Y.)–– Discover Schenectady, Schenectady County’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, today announced that the New York State Canal Conference and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) have selected Schenectady County to host their next conferences, bringing nearly 500 attendees to the area between the two events. The NALC Conference will draw visitors to Schenectady County from across the nation, while the New York State Canal Conference is a statewide gathering.

NALC’s two-day conference will be held at the Rivers Casino & Resort in March of 2019, while the New York State Canal Conference will be held in Fall of 2020. Attendees of the NALC Conference will be staying at hotels throughout the region including, The Landing Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Schenectady at Mohawk Harbor, DoubleTree by Hilton Schenectady, Hampton Inn Schenectady, and Homewood Suites Schenectady.

“Meetings, conferences, and conventions continue to bring more people here to Schenectady County to see everything we have to offer,” said Jeff McDonald, Schenectady County Legislator and Chairman of Discover Schenectady.  “We are actively competing for, and winning, the opportunity to host more and more annual meetings for statewide and national associations.”

“We immediately saw value in hosting our conference in Schenectady. We have a multitude of amenities at our fingertips for our attendees to explore and enjoy,” said Chairman of NYS Canal Conference Planning Committee David Kinyon. “In addition to the conference agenda, our attendees will enjoy the opportunity to shop, dine, and play in the downtown and surrounding areas. It really is the total package.”

Discover Schenectady has been working with local hotels as part of a successful effort to bring more meetings and conventions to Schenectady County.  Discover Schenectady recently hosted a showcase event to provide meeting and event planners with the opportunity to see first-hand the many meeting spaces and amenities the county has to offer. The New York State Tourism Industry Association met in Schenectady this past April with nearly 300 attendees at the Rivers Casino Event Center.  The new casino meeting venue attracted 300 events in its first year of operation.

“Company event planners are impressed by Schenectady’s new waterfront development, the rejuvenated downtown, and the access to first class hotel and meeting accommodations,” said Becky Daniels, Executive Director of Discover Schenectady County.  “We will continue to look for every opportunity to position ourselves as a regional meeting destination.”
