$30 Million Project for Former Auto Junkyard Site in Niskayuna

Riverfront Property to Go from Auto Scrap to Upscale Housing

(Schenectady County, NY) Schenectady County officials today joined with the Town of Niskayuna to announce plans to convert the former Williams Auto scrap yard into a new $30 million riverside residential development.

“This project is a great opportunity to clean-up a major site along the Mohawk River and the bike trail, continuing our track record of reclaiming the riverfront for new and exciting projects,” said Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature.

“The Town is excited to be working with the developer and the County’s unified economic development team to transform this site into a great new residential project that will create tax base and open up our waterfront for more public use,” said Joe Landry, Niskayuna Town Supervisor. “We thank Peter Luizzi and his team and the Williams Family for working with us to transform this parcel into something that will keep Niskayuna moving forward as a premier residential community in the Capital Region and beyond.”

The twenty – one (21) acre site is located just off of Aqueduct Road near the new $32 million Rexford Bridge that is under construction. The site borders the Mohawk River, the Mohawk-Hudson Hike/Bike Trail and the Town of Niskayuna’s Aqueduct Park which just received a State Regional Council grant to upgrade rowing facilities and other amenities.

The development team is headed by Mr. Peter Luizzi who owns Luizzi Brothers Contracting, a paving and site work contractor located in Albany. Mr. Luizzi is the developer for the Stoneledge Terrace project in Troy that includes 156 apartments and 60 condominiums. He also converted the former MVP building in downtown Schenectady into 30 apartments.

Mr. Luizzi plans to build 192 apartments at the Niskayuna site plus a pool and clubhouse. Over half the site will be maintained as greenspace and a portion of the units may be reserved for active seniors aged 55 and up. The project will also have access to Aqueduct Park and the riverfront.

“I am excited to work with and to have the support of the Town of Niskayuna, Metroplex, and Schenectady County to develop a project we all can be proud of,” said Peter Luizzi.
